ATOC – How to Find Missing Student Quiz Results

Last week I had an inquiry from a instructor who had missing quiz results for some of his students.  From the student’s computer, the quiz answers would display.  When the instructor searched for the quiz results in the gradebook, no answers were available to be graded.

Here is what is going on:

In order for an instructor to grade the results of an Assignment Sheet quiz or a Job Sheet quiz the student must click the Submit all and finish button.  This button is located on the second page of each type of quiz.  In order for the student to get to the page with this button they need to click the Next button at the bottom of the page of questions.  The screen below will display:

5-submit-all-and-finish

This screen allows the student to double check that they have answered all of the questions.  It also allows them to return to the quiz and double check their answers if they are in doubt about what they answered.  To complete the quiz process and have the quiz saved in the instructor’s gradebook the student must click the Submit all and finish button.  Unless this button is clicked the quiz will remain in the In Process State and none of the students responses will be saved to the instructor’s gradebook.  Nothing will display for the instructor to grade.

At this point in the quiz process the student’s responses have been saved for the student’s review only.  If the instructor looks at the grade book for this quiz it will look like this:

4-as-clicked-next-view

The instructor will see that the quiz is still in progress.

Once the student clicks on the Submit all and finish button the student will no longer be able to access the quiz (if attempts are set to 1).  However they will be able to review their answers.  The student’s screen will look like this:

8-review-as-student-view

The State indicates finished and there is a blue Review link that will allow the student to review their quiz.

The instructor’s gradebook will look like this:

6-as-ready-to-grade

Once the State indicates Finished the instructor is able to grade the quiz.

Word and PDF versions of this documentation will be available soon on the ATOC Products page.
